*Switched with the Zone Qualifier on May 3/4 Possible Duplicate Newsletter If you receive this newsletter twice, please accept our apologies. We are trying a new email delivery system and the initial test failed. We are unable to determine if any of you actually received anything from that test. This version has been updated with this article and sent via the old system. Thanks for your understanding. Kickoff Tournament Rescheduled to January 12 Mother Nature visited the Bay Area on the weekend of January 5 and 6 and left downed trees and flooding in her wake. She also convinced the Tournament Committee that postponing the Kickoff ILN event for a week would be prudent. If you entered the tournament and can play on January 12, you don't have to do anything. Your tee time will be carried forward for a week. If you entered and cannot play, please contact Mike Matkowski to remove yourself from the tournament and Chuck Cali for a refund. The club does not carry payments forward to a future event. One email directed to both parties will do the trick. If you did not sign up for the tournament, there may still be time to get in. Email Mike to see if there's room on the roster. New Member Tournament January 19 For those of you who have joined the club since January 2007, you are encouraged to enter our annual New Member Tournament. Someone from the Board of Directors will be calling you this week to ask you about signing up and playing in the event. That person will be happy to answer your questions if you've never played in a golf tournament before or have never played in one of our events. As an incentive, each new member who signs up will be treated to lunch after the round courtesy of the club. It's just a little "thank you" to those who have joined in the past year. Online Tournament Signups Encouraged The Board of Directors has waived any on-line signup fees for 2008 and strongly encourages members to enter tournaments using our secure signup system. It makes things easier for everyone involved including the Tournament Director and the Treasurer. If you sign up the old fashioned way, please DO NOT staple your check to the entry form nor use anything other than blue or blank ink when writing your check. Our Treasurer's schedule dictates that he use the ATM for deposits and our big-name bank now requires that each check be posted individually at the ATM. Staple holes and non-standard ink colors often cause the check to be rejected and the information entered manually. Tournament Tie-Breaker Policy Changed Ever been frustrated at the end of a PAGC tournament by the results of the tie breaking card playoff? Ever dropped from first to fourth with the same score as the winner? The Board of Directors has eliminated the card playoff from our tournaments except for a few exceptions. The most important is the card playoff for first place. Every tournament needs a winner and, where no on-course playoff is required, the tie will still be broken by a card playoff. In addition, at away tournaments where certificates are handed out, the card playoff will still be used for the certificates but the TOC points will be split among those in the tie. This change is now in effect for the 2008 tournament year and has been used for both the Turkey Shoot and the Ham Shoot.
