New Members Wanted

Over the years, the Palo Alto Golf Club has enjoyed high membership numbers often reaching the 600 mark.  Since 2005, we have seen a decline in those numbers of almost 25 percent.  When we began our most recent membership drive on October 1, 2008, we had 447 members.  As of June 1, 2009, that number was only 395.

Most of you know at least one golfer who does not belong to a club but plays a lot of golf.  You might also know a casual golfer who has thought about joining a club.  The next time you see someone who might be interested, tell him or her about the benefits of being a member.  If nothing else, he or she can be guaranteed a tee time at least twice each month with an opportunity to win pro shop credits.

The Invitational is Here

Vice President Larry Bazinett recently announced the details of our annual Invitational event where you get to invite a guest to join you as a teammate.  Set aside Saturday, August 1, for this year's tournament which promises to be exciting as always.

There will be awards for the top finishing teams in each flight, awards for closest to the pin on the par 3's, and awards for the longest drive by age group.  Add these to the tee prizes that everyone receives and throw in a lunch at the Bay Cafe and you can see why the event fills up quickly.  Click the link below to display and print an entry form.  On-line signups will not be available so act now.

Request Tee Times for a Tournament

Earlier this year the club allowed players to request their tee times for the Red, White and Blue tournament.  Originally, the idea was to offer this feature only for home events but, after evaluating the pros and cons, the board has decided to use it for certain away events as well.  When you sign up online and then click on the "My Tournaments" link, you can click a link next to selected events and request the tee time that you want.

If you have a foursome that you'd like to play with, get them all to sign up online and request the same time.  Remember, these are only requests and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Match Play Team Schedules

Thursday team captain John Osness and Saturday team captain Jeff Segol have announced the schedule for this year's matches.  If you are not familiar with this competition, our club plays other clubs in home-and-home competition with the winner of each group advancing to the NCGA bracket finals in the Fall.  PAGC has a unique place in the history of this event having won the initial Saturday team championship in 1989.
