Renewal Time Underway!

Our 2010 membership renewal period is under way and runs through mid December. The NCGA notified us in September that their dues are increasing from $30 to $36 per year. As a consequence the club dues have been increased to cover most of this added cost. For regular members, those under 60, that means $100 for next year's membership while seniors 60 and over will pay $95 to renew.

Our one mailing to members went out on October 9 and contained a renewal form and ballot for electing three members to our board of directors. Fill that out and return it as soon as possible with your check and board selections. This year we have added the ability to renew and vote on-line at our website. Look for the link "2010 Membership Renewal" in the upper left corner of the home page. This will take you to a secure section of the website where you can log in, pay your renewal fee and cast your ballot.

Player of the Year

The 2009 competitive year ended on October 18 with the two day Tournament of Champions.  Patrick Beaulieu continued his stellar performance with a fourth place finish in the event to take Player of the Year honors.

We Support Junior Golf

At the November Board of Directors Meeting, George Maxe, Executive Director of the First Tee of San Jose, gave a presentation outlining their mission for assisting youth in the South Bay.  The organization has been seeking other venues for their programs and has begun holding classes at Palo Alto Golf Course.  You may have seen their banner as you walk from the parking lot to the pro shop.

The Palo Alto Golf Club collects donations for junior golf during the annual renewal period.  Since the East Palo Alto YMCA has dropped their junior golf program, we have been looking for a way to support golf programs targeted for local youth.  The First Tee is a solid organization that appears to help us meet our goal of giving back to the community.  In the coming weeks, the board will be working with them to find the best way to donate the funds that the members so generously provide.

If you'd like more information, visit The First Tee of San Jose's website.

Most of you know at least one golfer who does not belong to a club but plays a lot of golf. You might also know a casual golfer who has thought about joining a club. The next time you see someone who might be interested, tell him or her about the benefits of being a member. If nothing else, he or she can be guaranteed a tee time at least twice each month with an opportunity to win pro shop credits!
