NCGA Four Ball Qualifier
April 7, 2018 at Sunnyvale

The sometimes heavy rains on Friday gave way to mostly sunny skies on Saturday for the 2018 version of the NCGA Four Ball Qualifier. The storm dumped enough water on the course so that we had to invoke our local rule about preferred lies. The competition consisted of two tournaments - one to determine the two four ball teams that will go on in the NCGA competition and one to determine who won the prize money and the coveted TOC points.

In the qualifier, the team of Mark Heucke and Brad Martin took the first spot with a net 61. Three teams tied for second at net 62 and returned to the course to play it off for the one remaining spot. David Farwell and William Wei won it on the first extra hole besting the teams of Tyler Biggs & Ed Barkley and Buzz Ogren & Ray Coler.

In the "Points and Prize Money" portion of the tournament, the team of Tyler Biggs and Ed Barkley won the Masters Flight with a ten-under net 60. The Heucke/Martin team took second with their 61. In the Augusta Flight, Jim Schenkel and Ken Arends teamed for a net 62 to win first place. The second spot went to Tom Barreira and his guest Robert Golzen with a 64.

In case you are wondering about the difference in scores between the qualifier and the club tournaments, the NCGA limites handicaps to 18.4 in the qualifier. As a result, some of the club scores came out lower where full handicaps were used.

Congratulations to all and good luck to the qualifiers in the next round of competition at a local course on May 24.
