Spring Hills - Four Ball
October 20, 2018

The club traveled over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Spring Hills in Watsonville again this year, one of our favorite courses.  The cordial staff and unique amenities this venue provides attract a good turnout each year.  At checkin, you are handed a mimosa and an order sheet for your post-round burger. Following the golf you can sit on the patio, enjoy your burger and watch your fellow competitors try to avoid the water that fronts the 18th green. A total of 11 teams tried the narrow canyons, rolling hills and steep greens in a four ball (best ball) format.

At the top of the leader board was the team of Jack Purcell and Roger Kalemba with an astounding 59. That's two shots better than last year's winning score. There was a three way tie for second place at 66. Because the prize money was divided between the Baylands and Spring Hills pro shops, the tournament director turned to a card playoff used in these situations. Coming out in second place was the father/son duo of Bob Arends and Ken Arends. Third place went to Tracy Powell and new member William Wang with fourth place awarded to John Harris and Ross Erickson.

A few of the early finishers watched from the picnic area as new member Heath Black drove the short par 4 18th and then sank the putt for an eagle.
