NCGA Zone Qualifier
March 10, 2018
The Golf Club at Moffett Field

The gray skies threatened but didn't drop any rain on those teams attempting to qualify for the NCGA's SF Bay Zone regional finals on May 17 and 18.  This year we returned to the ever-improving Golf Club at Moffet Field to determine which two-man teams would combine to comprise the four-man team to represent the club.

The father/son duo of Keith Arends and Darien Arends teamed up nicely for a net 63 to capture the first spot. Three teams tied at 64 and returned to the course to play it off for the second spot. Ray Coler and Buzz Ogren came out on top to advance with the Arends team to play in the finals at Carmel Valley Ranch and Poppy Hills.

This event was also a regular four ball tournament for prize money and the coveted TOC points.  In the First Flight Doug Marinkovich and partner Scott Whitten shot an 11-under 61 for the top spot. That number would have sent them to the next round of competition but scheduling conflicts prevented them from advancing. The team of John Osness and Adam Fink tied Coler and Ogren for the second spot with the teams splitting the TOC points.  The prize money was in the form of Moffett gift cards so a card playoff determined that John and Adam took the second place prize money.

Top honors in the Second Flight went to Keith and Darien while second place going to Ken Arends, Keith's brother, and partner Jim Schenkel who has been on a hot streak over the last three tournaments. Ross Erickson and long-time parnter Roger Kalemba took third with a 66.

Congratulations to the qualifiers and good luck in the next round.
