Spring Valley ILN
January 25, 2020

The club traveled to Milpitas to play Spring Valley, a course that sits at the foot of an unnamed mountain ridge. I mention that because the ridge has a great influence on how the putts break on this short but tricky course. To master this course means that you've mastered the twists and turns of the greens.

The First Flight played from the blue/white combo tees at a distance of just 6041 yards. The low gross prize went to Baylands General Manager (and club member) Ed Winiecki with a 79. Patrick Beaulieu and William Wei tied for low net at even par 70 with Patrick winning a card playoff to take the top spot.

The Second Flight played the white tees at 5860 yards, just 180 yards shorter than the First Flight. Long-time member Jim Schenkel won low gross with an 84, three shots ahead of his nearest competitor. Club president Trevor Heathorn finished with a three under 67 to take the low net prize.

The club added a skins game for the first time in a while with four players taking home an additional $40. Continuing his fine performance for the day, Jim Schenkel birdied the fifth hole while partner Diane Beach playing the red/white combo tees duplicated the fete with a birdie on eleven. Other skins winners included James Kaku (birdie on 12) and Dave Bridgman (eagle on 9).

Congratulations to the winners and thanks for coming out to enjoy the competition.
