Ham Shoot FormatWe are repeating last year's Ham Shoot Format, due to popular demand. It is a two man match play event and teams will be selected by matching the closest players by index. Do not sign up as a team. The format kicks off with 6 holes of better ball. The opposing teams will be paired to minimize handicap differentials, and this stretch of holes will be where almost all strokes fall. 90% of December handicap will be used and the strokes 'spin' off the low handicap in the group. Low net score of the two balls in the team will determine the winner of the hole. Competition then switches to 6 holes of alternate shot format. Golfers play alternately from the teeing grounds and alternately during the play of each hole. Pick a player ('A') to tee off on hole 7. Then 'B' tees off on 8, 'A' on 9 etc. thru 12. Note that penalty strokes do not effect the order of play. You must complete the hole with the ball teed off (unless it is lost), so don't use your own ball on the putting green when it is your turn to putt! If a ball must be 'dropped' for any reason, it is the player whose turn it is to play next who should take the drop. Also, a provisional ball should be played by the player who is next to play. Finally, teams head for home with 6 holes of total better ball competition. In this format, the sum of the net scores for both players will determine which team wins the hole. The winning team will get the coveted 'certificates'. Be sure to check your rules sheet on the day of the tournament since some additions or modifications may be made.
