Match Play Championship Format

Match Play has always been the best form of competition and we hope to have a full field of 80 players this year.  And this year there are some changes to the competition which should make it more enjoyable for all.

The field will be made up of a championship flight (see below) and up to four 16 player handicap flights.  There will be no partial flights with bye rounds.  Priority will be given to players who signed up (and paid) earliest so there is a distinct possibility that players who sign up toward the end of the signup period will not be included in the tournament.  Mail in entries will be logged in using the end of the date that the mail in was postmarked.

One reason we are going to only have full flights is that each flight will have a consolation bracket so that players who sign up are sure of getting two rounds of play on the first weekend.

The Championship flight will be played at scratch from the Black tees.  Signing up for this flight is voluntary but we are hoping that, with the addition of the consolation bracket, we can get 16 of our best players to sign up and go for the overall championship.  If more than 16 sign up, the June handicaps will be used to select the 16 players.

However, if we don't get 16 volunteers in this category, then an 8 player flight will be created using the June handicaps.  That flight will then have a 36 hole final over the second Saturday and Sunday.  In this case, the flight will not have a consolation bracket and the first day losers will get a refund of half their entry fee.

Seedings in all flights will be done by a random draw and we will be using June handicaps for all rounds.

Flight Winner:  $100  Consolation Winner:  $50
Flight Runner-up:  $75  Consolation Runner-up:  $40
Quarter Finalists:  $50
