NCGA QUALIFIERS
The NCGA runs four Club Tournaments every year
and we run qualifying events for each one. The most popular is the Zone
Tournament for which we get to send a single four person team. In addition
there is a Four-Ball event (2 person teams), and Individual Low Net (where we
can send 3 or 6 players) and a Senior Four-Ball where we can send three 2
person teams. The numbers above are, of course, based on our
current membership and the eligibility statements in the NCGA Blue Book which
comes out at the first of the year. It is IMPERATIVE that the TC
carefully read the tournament descriptions since the number of eligible teams
and the Conditions of Play may vary from year to year. In addition, the
dates for the Zone tournament should be verified with the NCGA THE PREVIOUS
YEAR, if possible, since it is better to have the qualifier prior to the
actual event in The NCGA will be sending all entry forms to the
Tournament Chairman at the start of the year. The worst mistake a TC
can make is to fail to fill out these forms and get them to the NCGA prior to
the deadline. (It happened one year and the qualifying teams were not
amused.) Note also that it is no longer permissible to send in blank
forms prior to our qualifier. This means that the forms, properly
filled out (including the signature of Handicap Chairman), and a check must
arrive at the NCGA by the closing date. This obviously has schedule
implications. The team qualifiers always have a maximum index
limit of 18.4, although players above can participate and use an 18.4
index. In addition the two person events have a limit of 8 strokes
between the course handicaps of the two players. Fortunately the TPP
software handles these requirements very well. In setting up the
tournament qualifier be sure to enforce these two rules since we try to
handle the qualifiers under rules identical to the NCGA event, itself. For each of these qualifiers, a separate club
tournament is conducted for Prize Money. We want to encourage tournament play
by all players regardless of handicap. In these cases, separate score
cards are required for teams having a player with an index greater than 18.4. Last
