October is a great time to get out and play golf.  Our Fall weather is usually the best of the year with sunshine and comfortable temperatures.  Don't just sit there, do something!

pagcMembership Renewals

During the first week of October you should have received your annual membership renewal form in the mail.  Membership fees for 2012 remain unchanged from last year - $100 for regular members and $95 for those over 60.

You can renew by returning the enclosed form along with your check by December 15, 2011.  An even easier way to renew is on-line using our secure website to process your payment using either your PayPal account or a credit card.  In either case, be sure to vote for the new board members listed below.

pagcFlood Control Project Update

The project to widen the San Francisquito channel which runs by the golf course will eventually take place and funding for the project is very close to final approval.  However, the latest estimate from city staff now call for it having no effects on the Palo Alto Golf Course until Fall, 2012 at the earliest.  Given the way projects go, this probably means that nothing will happen until 2013.  With the progress being made on the course by the maintenance team from Valley Crest the course should be in excellent shape for next year's tournament play.  So get your renewals in and bring some friends along with you as new members. (And yes, there are several projects under way to control the geese and squirrels and progress is being made.)

Join us on October 24th, 2011 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Bay Cafe to discuss changes to the Palo Alto Golf Course that will need to take place to accommodate new flood control and ecosystem work to the adjacent San Francisquito Creek.  This meeting is an opportunity for golfers and others to get an update and to ask questions of Forrest Richardson on the work, including the master planning for the clubhouse area.

pagcThursday Match Play Ends Playoff Run

Our Thursday match play team, captained by John Osness, finished the round-robin part of the competition with three wins, two losses and one tie.  That turned out to be the best record in the group and sent the team to the elimination round.  In the first match on September 1 against Crystal Springs the team came out on top 21-15.

Round two against Pajaro Valley was a different story.  The three groups playing at Palo Alto took 8 of the possible 18 points while the groups playing away were shut out.  The final score was a 28-8 blowout in favor of Pajaro Valley and an end to the season.
