Christmas is almost here and the 2015 tournament season is done. The 2016 season
starts January 16 so take advantage of the sunny days to get out and play. Also
don't forget to spend those pro shop winnings and treat yourself to a new toy
for the new year. "Go Play!" as Old Tom Morris says. Signups are now open
for the first two events of 2016.
2016 Renewals Ending 12/28
The membership renewal period is coming to an end on 12/28. That doesn't mean you can't renew after that. It just means that it will cost you an extra $10 to rejoin for 2016.
The NCGA will bill us in early January for the portion of your dues that supports their organization and helps put on the four qualifiers we send participants to each year.
If payment forms have gone missing, please contact the membership coordinator John Frykland at 650-637-0222.
Better yet, go to the Palo Alto Golf Club website and follow the links to renew online.
If you'd rather mail in your membership and don't have your renewal form, there's a link on the home page that will display a blank form to fill out and
The dues remain the same as last year. Regular members (under 60) can renew for $100 while it will cost
those 60 and over $95. Return your renewal and ballot for board of directors in the envelope provided. Remember, club members in good standing
on the date the course closes will receive a free round of golf at the new course when it's completed.
Membership as of 12/1/2015
for 2016 Board of Directors
As part of the annual renewal process, the club holds elections for the coming year's Board of Directors. Each year we elect three new board members to
replace those whose term has expired. Listed below are the candidates for 2016.
Be sure to return your ballot with your renewal form. If you renew online, simply drop the completed ballot in the envelope provided with the
paperwork and return it.
Course Closing Update
In the August 2012 newsletter we first announced the plans to renovate the Palo
Alto Golf Course as part of a flood remediation project on San Fransiquito
Creek. The original plan called for an August 2013 start. Here we are three
years following that initial announcement and all we currently have is a
shortened course and a large mound of earth piled up for use in the project. The
latest news is that the course will remain open through June 2016.
The club will schedule home tournaments during the first half of 2016 in anticipation of the course
The schedule for the remainder of the year will continue as it has in the past with two tournaments per month.
Check the website for more timely updates to next year's schedule.
Buzz Ogren - Player of the Year
Congratulations to our Player of the Year, Buzz Ogren, who finished with a total of 496 points for the season.
In accumulating those points, Buzz took either low net or low gross as an individual or team member in the following events:
- New Member Team Event
- May Team Event
- Los Lagos ILN
- NCGA Net Amateur
- Stroke Play Championship
- Director's Cup
Coming into the Tournament of Champions, Buzz had an almost insurmountable lead.
He didn't finish in the money in the TOC but then none of the top eight players in the points list managed to garner any points either.
This is Buzz's second Player of the Year award since joining the club in 2011.
He also won the honor in 2012
