Baylands Local Rules

Local Rules (USGA Rules govern all play except where modified by Local Rules):

  • Environmental Sensitive Areas (ESA) - Marked with green tipped Red Stakes - On holes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12-15, 17, & 18

  • Entry is prohibited - Please do not enter or play from these areas

  • If you hit your ball into the ESA - Please proceed under Rule 17.1d: Relief for Ball in Red Penalty Area when ball is in a No Play Zone in Penalty Area:

  • Split rail fences are considered immovable obstructions. Proceed under rule 16.1 Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions):

  • (1) Meaning of Interference by Abnormal Course Condition. Interference exists when any one of these is true:

    • The player’s ball touches or is in or on an abnormal course condition,

    • An abnormal course condition physically interferes with the player’s area of intended stance or area of intended swing, or

    • Only when the ball is on the putting green, an abnormal course condition on or off the putting green intervenes on the line of play.

  • If the abnormal course condition is close enough to distract the player but does not meet any of these requirements, there is no interference under this Rule.

  • Sprinkler Heads - Relief from interference by an immovable obstruction may be taken under Rule 16.1. In addition, if a ball is in the General Area, the player may take free relief when an immovable obstruction lies on the line of play, and is:

    • Within two club-lengths of the putting green, and

    • Within two club-lengths of the ball.

    • Exception — No Relief if Line of Play Clearly Unreasonable: Relief under this Local Rule is not available if the player chooses a line of play that is clearly unreasonable.

    • Relief Procedure:

      • The player must find the nearest point of complete relief that is (a) not nearer the hole, (b) avoids interference from the obstruction, and (c) is in the General Area. The player must drop the ball in the relief area within one club-length of that point."

  • Lost ball: Use USGA Local Rule E-5 which allows you to drop ball at edge of fairway laterally from where your ball is deemed to be lost with a 2-stroke penalty.
