January, 2023 Board Minutes
When: January 5th, 2023, 5:30pm
- Doug introduces new board members: Nick Williams, Chris Walker, Chris Dierkes, Jim Cowie, Rafael Toscano Carmona
- Doug discussed the roles of the board members. Four positions are voted on. Vote was unanimous:
- Doug Marinkovich – President
- Andrew Clauson – Vice President
- Chris Walker – Secretary
- Chris Dierkes – Treasurer
- Committees assigned by President: - Tournament & Handicap: Chuck, Andrew, Nick, James & Trevor
- Membership: Rafa & Doug
- Audit: Chris Walker and Chris Dierkes.
- Communications: Heath and Doug

- New Pro at Baylands; Kevin Sprenger. He will attend the February meeting along with Baylands GM David Hall.
- Ben Weaver has asked to play some events left-handed. Handicap document from USGA and R&A states this is not allowed. Important passage: - HANDICAP INDEX BASED ON HAND DOMINANCE: A player must establish a Handicap Index playing from either their dominant or non-dominant hand side. If the Handicap Index is established playing left-handed, the player must continue to play lefthanded and post all acceptable scores. If a player discontinues play from the hand dominant side in which the Handicap Index was established and begins play from the opposite side, the original Handicap Index must be invalidated; and a new scoring record must be established. The Handicap Committee should work with the AGA to remove the invalidated Handicap Index and scoring record from display. A player may not have a left-handed Handicap Index and a right-handed Handicap Index concurrently.

- Communications update – Recently received mostly complete schedule, and will update the website soon. Will be working on a newsletter for January highlighting new rules changes. Will typically do one newsletter every other month unless an extra one is necessary.
- Tournament Update – Schedule is complete with directors. There are still a few away events with TBD for format. Will need to plan those soon.
- Budget update – Due to coming under budget on many items, there is a good cushion in the bank. One canceled event (6-6-6) also contributed to surplus, as these fees will be put towards future events. For 2023 budget, we expect a new surplus of ~$3,000. We will discuss usage of that money at future meetings.
- Handicap/Golf Genius – Only 11 new soft cap scores in December. 1 exceptional score. Blue Golf will not be free this year. Price is comparable to Golf Genius. Will keep Golf Genius for now.
