July, 2023 Board Minutes

PAGC Board Minutes 7/6/2023

Attendees: Doug Marinkovich, Chuck Pickett, Nick Williams, James Kaku, Jim Cowie, Christopher Walker.

  1. Call to order 5:30pm

  2. Meeting minutes for May 2023 and June 2023 approved.

  3. Franco Montes taking over as communications director starting 7/1/2023. Training was completed during June.

  4. David Hall has retired from Baylands. Kevin Springer will be the interim GM for now.

  5. Audit completed with Rafa and Chris Dierkes. Everything acceptable.

  6. Doug is training Franco also for tournaments starting with Bayonet in July. Chris Walker is planning to train Nick Kendall during the 5-club event in August.

  7.  NCGA increasing fees from $39 to $46 next year. Also, removing the $10 fee for new or lapsed members (which we also passed through anyways). We will raise the players’ fee by this extra $7 next year.

  8. There is apparently a process available for a player who part of multiple NCGA clubs to get a refund on the extra fees. Jim Cowie will look into it.

  9. New charity opportunity called Live In Peace, run by Bob Hover. A possible place to donate golf clubs. Could be a good place to donate money from the club.

  10. Bandon Trip for November 2024. Organized by Keith Shiver through Deep Cliff. Will put it in the newsletter.

  11. Match Play starts this weekend. Event full with 2 on the waitlist. Will update handicaps weekly, so playing handicap will change from round to round. A suggestion was made to have major tournaments play off of the lowest index for 12 months. Board will discuss for 2024 majors.

  12. Large number of soft caps, but none of them seem out of place. Some weird issues have showed up in the USGA GHIN app where some scores have been edited, but not by the handicap director. We think it is a strange link between golf genius or blue golf and the USGA website. Nick will investigate.

  13. Membership is up to 390 players for the year.

  14. Finances have been fairly slow. We will continue using some overage for closest-to-the-pin prizes paid at PGA Superstore. Projected bank balance is on track for +$6,000 at the end of the year.

  15. Adjourn 6:22pm
